5. The Infamous MySpace Picture
Now we move away from pure speculation. So, I get home from purchasing my new Treo 680 ($400 out of the fund formerly known as the Cancun fund) all happy and excited. Dying to sync that baby with in some hotsync'ing bliss with my laptop. Then, as I am setting up my bluetooth connection with my laptop, my boy Steve IMs me telling me to check out Vanessa's default picture. He gives me a link and asks me if that's my phone.
Sure enough, it's Vanessa holding what seems to be a Copper Treo 680 against her ear. Luckily, I saved the picture because if you go on her MySpace now, that picture has suspiciously disappeared. Hmmmmmmm....
It's obvious to me it's a Treo 680. Add that to the fact that too many coincidences exist, it's more than probable that it is my Treo 680.
I try to call her first and luckily, she does not pickup because, as you will see by the conversations below, I was trying to avoid confrontation because:
- 1. I was still not 100% sure she took it.
- 2. Irving drama has not been good for my health
- 3. She was actually in my book of cool peoples before this incident
So now, I send her an IM:

Let me clarify this statement: Copper (orange) Treo 680 was only available as an unlocked and unbranded phone directly through Palm. It was not sold by any carrier till February 15th. Now, it is only available through Cingular. Not many people purchase unlocked phone because of the negatives of owning an unlocked phone:
- Cost: It isn't subsidized by the carrier so it cost more.
- Insurance: Unlocked/unbranded phones are not covered under the carrier's insurance. If you lose it, you lose it.
- Promotion: Unlocked/unbranded phones are not promoted by the carrier so most people do not really know about them.
- Availability: Since they are not sold in your carrier's store, you would have to go through other less conventional options such as directly through manufacture (like I did through Palm) or through e-bay (like I did for my replacement phone).
The real positive of an unlocked phone is being able to switch carriers freely (well the carriers with networks that your phone supports). Treo 680 supports GSM so one could switch between Cingular and T-mobile without restrictions by just switching the SIM card.
Anyway... moving on:
